Speakers – How Committed Are You?
When my full management and consulting clients give me their goals, we come up with a strategy to meet these goals. I can do what I can on my side – promoting and pitching – but in the end the client needs one very important thing – absolute commitment.
Here are a few examples so you can see to what I am referring:
- One of my full-management clients was offered an opportunity to write a short article for a publication. She was given two weeks to do so by the editor. She never did it. Deadline passed. A week later she asked, “Is it too late?” Of course it’s too late – magazines have editorial deadlines. This particular client is consistently like this. It took her eight months to update her website, and as of today it still has a ton of errors her webmaster needs to fix. And for the items we discussed in her December strategy meeting … I am still waiting.
- One of my consulting clients whom I told I would check back in on her in six weeks to confirm her progress told me she hadn’t started on anything we had discussed. And instead of owning this, she blamed her assistant.
- A man that my husband and I did a mini in-person retreat with in October came back to us recently for a follow-up after not having completed one item on the “homework” we gave him five months ago.
You can be successful – IF YOU WANT TO BE – but it takes action. It takes work. It takes patience. And it takes commitment.
If you are want to ensure you are committed to your success, how about finding an accountability buddy? Or like me, I am in a mastermind group where all of us women are committed to making sure all of us are committed to our goals and the actions we say we are going to take surrounding them. And what is the consequence? Perhaps come up with something that will ensure you will take the necessary steps you said you would take. Whether or not you create a consequence to spur you on, know that if your consequence will be naturally given by a world that does not reward those lacking commitment.
I am ready to celebrate your success with you!
